Obituary notice from Poverty Bay Herald, Dated 17th April 1942.
Titled - Mr. John Callahan - South Otago Pioneer

In Gisborne he was employed by the Gisborne Borough
Council until his retirement in 1937, but he
retained a keen interest in the Catlins River farmers, whom he visited several
times, his last visit to that district being at Christmas. He was member of the I.O.O.F. lodge since 1904, and
ranked among the oldest of the past grands of the order in New Zealand. Mr. Callahan is survived by five sons and five daughters, the family comprising Mrs.
