This web site is focused on the New Zealand branch of the Callahan family tree which originated from Jeremiah Callaghan in Owaka, the Catlins, Otago, South Island. Jeremiah Callaghan was born in County Cork, Ireland in1835. He arrived in New Zealand in 1861 and had two sons and a daughter in Dunedin, South Otago.The eldest son was John William, the next was Jeremiah Henry. No further records at present exist of the life of the daughter. In 1916 during World War One the eldest son moved to Gisborne, Poverty Bay,North Island at the age of 50. Hence the Callahan family is now split between the North and the SouthIslands of New Zealand. My direct line from the year 1835 |
