District Borough
council in 1920 at the age of 54 yrs.

Callahan John - Laborer - age of 54 , 244 pounds salary, no annual leave,
resigned to advancing age and
ill health 31/3/1935 - Superannuating 388/10 pounds per year.

Gisborne.
Dear Sir,
Owing to my advancing age and increasing ill health I am reluctantly compelled
to tender my resignation as
a member of your staff.

Re - Resignation
Dear Sir,
I am directed by the Gisborne Borough Council to acknowledge receipt of your
communication of the 30th
ulto. tendering, on account of your advancing age and increasing ill health,
your resignation as a member of the
Waterworks staff, and in reply have to state the Council accepted your
resignation with regret, and desire
to convey to you its appreciation of the very valuable services rendered by you
during your term of
employment with the Borough.
The council also decided by the way of further recognition to grant you four
weeks leave on full pay.
Your decision communicated to me personally in regard to your superannuating
will be conveyed to the
National Provident Board, and as soon as the necessary papers are forwarded for
your signature you will
be further communicated with.

I have to thank you for the kind consideration you have shown me in allowing me
one month's pay and also for
