Brief History
-
In 1939 John William Callahan and his niece Nelly (aged 17) returned to Owaka on
a six week holiday.
The purpose of the trip was to visit his brother Jerry and his
wife's cousins.
They took a steamer from Gisborne to Lyttleton and then a train to Owaka.
John returned to the house that he and his family grew up in before moving
to Gisborne in 1916.
Many of these photos where taken across the lake to his brother's
farm opposite.
These photos were taken by Nelly with her box brownie.
